Walk on the wild side es una canción de Lou Reed de su segundo álbum solista Transformer de 1972, un gran álbum de Glam-Rock producido por David Bowie y Mick Ronson donde están incluidas maravillosas canciones tales como: "Perfect Day", "Vicious", "Goodnight Ladies", "Satellite of Love" y de la que voy a hablar en este post "Walk to the Wild Side". En esta canción, al igual que sus canciones con The Velvet Underground, Lou Reed hace una invitación a explorar el lado oscuro, el de los marginados, las putas, drogadictos, los perdedores, los travestis, los vendedores de droga y tomó a las peligrosas calles de NY como materia prima para sus canciones/cuentos/poemas. Por eso la "Factory" o el círculo artístico de Andy Warhol sirvió de inspiración para "Walk on the Wild Side" donde cada estrofa se cuenta la historia de uno de estos personajes pertenecientes al círculo ambulante de Warhol. (Holly Woodlawn, Candy Darling, Joe Dallesandro, Joe Campbell y Jackie Curtis).

Lou Reed fue un transgresor de la música de esos tiempos, en una época donde todo era amor, oler a mierda y andar desnudo tirando flores con una cauchera, Lou Reed decidió vestirse de negro, escribir de otros temas, ser ambigüo sexualmente y ensayar otras melodías, lo cuál (en mi concepto) es de rescatar y lo convierte en uno de los grandes de la historia del rock (bastante subvalorado).
